Taj Mahal – Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal who died giving birth to their fourteenth child in 1631, the Taj Mahal is described by the Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore as ‘A tear drop on the face of eternity’. Heartbroken by her death, legend has it that Shah Jahan’s hair turned grey overnight and that he turned his back on running the empire, concentrating instead on the construction of this monument to love. Construction took 22 years and the Taj was completed in 1653 at a speculated cost of 3 million rupees, equivalent to around 70 million US Dollars today.
Agra Fort – Massive and majestic, the red sandstone fort in Agra, built by Emperor Akbar, is perhaps the best-preserved fort in India. Construction of this crescent shaped fort 2.5km in circumference commenced in 1565. Contained within the huge double outer walls up to 20m high and broken by a series of huge gates, the fort is almost a city within a city. Initially the fort was a military structure but under the rule of Shah Jahan, Akbar’s grandson, many additions were added. The fort houses the Dewan-i-Khas and Dewan-i-Aam (Halls of Private and Public Audience) as well as the Musammam Burj and Khas Mahal, where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb. Today these palatial buildings are silent witness to the rise and fall of the Imperial Mughal Empire and are exemplars of Islamic architecture and decoration.

With vibrant history and a rich heritage, the Dholpur Palace today beckons the rulers of the time, to a mesmerizing journey back in time. Dholpur Palace is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved heritage hotels in Rajasthan. It is more lustrous than it ever was, having been refurbished extravagantly by the owner. It’s simple exterior of unclad brick leaves you unprepared for the sheer opulence of the interiors. The Raj Niwas Palace is one of a kind- a unique example of the Indian fascination for European, and especially Dutch ceramics.
Chambal Ravine Safari The steep Chambal river itself offers a pretty natural panorama and making you feel as if history is flowing past you. Your imagination runs wild. You can feel the presence of fierce warriors, daring dacoits and hardened people. However, in spite of all its ruggedness, the Chambal valley has ever been inviting to mankind since time immemorial. While at one end the labyrinths of the valley have been providing shelter to the rebels, on the other hand the pure icy cold water of Chambal river has instilled zeal and vivacity in the natives of this regions. Bordering with the states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the Chambal belt of Northern Madhya Pradesh is full of zigzagged ravines. A journey through this valley reveals great secrets of this old civilization. The whole Chambal valley abounds in archeological legacies and only in Morena district there are no less than 60 archeologically significant sites. All these archeological sites lie in the range of 40 Kms. from Gwalior.
Technically, ravines are formed when the upper layer of vegetal cover is not strong enough and the roots of trees are unable to hold and bind the soil together. Constant rainfall erodes the soil and washes away the crust of the earth. Consequentially, the water flow turns into drains, creating cracks. In due course of time, these cracks are further eroded, and become large ravines. In Bhind and Moraina districts are high grounds where rainfall, the Chambal River and its tributaries have eroded the land, resulting in huge cracks and valleys. These deep valleys are the Chambal Ravines.
The area we cover in JEEP SAFARI through the ravines Starts with visiting the Shergarh fort. Through the small muddy tracks among the ravines and along the banks of the river, we explore village life through small villages hidden deep into the ravines along the Chambal river. Life is full of hardships as the land available for agriculture is scares. 05 hours safari programme which covers Shergarh fort, Talab e shahi, Nadi Ka tal, Van Vihar and a glimpse into Chambal ravines and village life (visiting Gama village and banks of Chambal)
Chambal Boat Safari The ancient name of the Chambal was Charmanvati, meaning the river on whose banks leather is dried. The epic narrative the Mahabharata, refers to the Chambal river as the one which originate from the blood of sacrificed animals by the Aryan King 'Rantideva' The River made the southern boundary of Panchal Kingdom ruled by King Drupadthe legends of its curse by Draupadi and its bloody 'unholy' origins due to King Drupada have helped the Chambal to survive unpolluted by man, and its many animal inhabitants to thrive relatively untouched. The Chambal remains one of India's most pristine rivers.
The Chambal river remains one of north India's most unpolluted rivers, home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna. It contains the rare Ganges River Dolphins the other inhabitants of the sanctuary include Mugger Crocodiles and Migratory Birds from Siberia form its rich avian fauna.
The best way to experience the Chambal Sanctuary is to take a boat safari in Chambal river, experiencing the magnificent Ravines on one side of the bank and happening wildlife on the expanse of the river, the other side. The safari is for one hour (extendable on prorata basis) and your boat escort takes you quite far in to the river bed to experience the natural habitat of Ghariyals, Crocodile, turtles and close to 300 species of resident and migratory birds.

Centuries in the making, Deogarh Mahal's history begins far before the majestic palace was ever built. Even at first glance at the palace, it's obvious that Deogarh Mahal has been an integral part of the Mewar aristocracy and heritage, passed down from many Rawats, a local title equivalent to Raja, to be used as a personal residence and fort.

Toy Train ride - You hardly realize how high this part of Rajasthan is, and one way of finding out, is to take a little-known train ride to a dusty, quaint station called Phulad. We can catch the train from Deogarh itself, but to get that charm of, in-the-middle-of-nowhere kind of feeling, we will board from Khamlighat a few kilometres away. The metre gauge line runs from Udaipur to Marwar junction, a distance of a little under 200 kilometres. The train doesn't have a name. The train a number is 222. It's a little passenger train and takes you through some pretty rugged terrain, some stunning and indeed very cinematic landscape. The section between Khamli Ghat and Phulad is the prettiest and takes a couple of hours, at a leisurely pace. This is also the highest track on the Western Railways. The train trip will be one big, beautiful surprise!
Nathdowara Temple (‘The Gateway of the Lord’) - Nathdwara is a small town in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Situated at a distance of 48kms in the north-east of Udaipur, Nathdwara is sited on the right bank of Banas River. Nathdwara is famous for its 17th century temple that is dedicated to Lord Shrinathji (Lord Krishna). The term 'Nathdwara' suggests the 'gate of the lord'. Shrinathji Temple is also known as 'Haveli of Shrinathji' and makes a prominent pilgrimage of the Hindus / Vaishnavas.
The temple has a story behind its establishment. According to the legend, the image of Lord Shrinath ji was enshrined in Vrindavan (land of Lord Krishna), but to protect the idol from the destructive rage of Aurangzeb. In 1672, Rana Raj Singh was the only gallant, who made an effort to rescue the idol from the domain of Aurangzeb. It is said that when the image was being shifted to an impervious place then at a particular place, the wheel of vehicle sank deep down in mud. The image refused to move further, so the escorting priest apprehended that this was Lord's chosen spot. Thus, a temple was built on the same spot.
Lake Pichhola – Situated in Udaipur city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, is an artificial fresh water lake, created in the year 1362 AD, named after the nearby Picholi village. It is one of the several contiguous lakes, and developed over the last few centuries in and around the famous Udaipur city. The lakes around Udaipur were primarily created by building dams to meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of the city and its neighborhood. Two islands, Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir are located within Pichola Lake, and have been developed with several palaces to provide views of the lake.
Udaipur – Was founded by Maharana Udai Singh, in 1567. Still very much a traditional Rajput town, it is one of the most picturesque and romantic towns in India. It has an impressive selection of world-class hotels and the city glows in the early evening as dusk falls over Lake Pichola. This is an ideal time to enjoy a boat ride to Jagmandir Island Palace. The second island on the lake is Jag Niwas Island, now more commonly known as the famous Lake Palace hotel, which featured in the James Bond movie Octopussy. The City Palace over-looks Lake Pichola and houses an impressive museum that includes an outstanding collection of miniature paintings. Every evening in the beautiful Manek Chowk of the City Palace is a sound and light show, which brings the history of the palace alive. The Jagdish Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, was completed in 1651 and is covered with intricate carvings. At all times of the day melodic chanting and singing can be heard, however it is at the evening prayers that the temple really comes alive.

[The temples are open for Non-Jains from 1200 hours until 1600 hours every day]

Rohet Garh - Rohet Garh is a classified Heritage Hotel. Since 1990 it has been nurtured and developed with great love and care by the family into one of the finest Heritage hotels in the country. No new building has been added in the renovation process, but rather, old edifices have been skilfully redesigned to create a heritage property that has few parallels. Situated on the banks of a lake and set in the midst of rural surroundings, it is a haven of peace and tranquillity. Sprawling lawns and manicured gardens, which invite a multitude of birds and dancing peacocks, herald your entry into this oasis where the bird song is the only sound you will hear. A superb swimming pool with four charming pavilions entices you for a refreshing dip. Often dinner is served by the poolside as folk musicians enliven the evening atmosphere. Jodhpur - Lying on what was once the Delhi / Gujarat trading route, and known as the Blue City, the former capital of Marwar is the second city of Rajasthan. In 1459 Rao Jodha, forced from Mandore, selected a rocky range of sandstone hills on which to build his new city. He surrounded his new capital with a wall 10km long and 2.7m thick. Ranging from 4 to 9m in height with 7 gates, the wall is dwarfed by the huge and impregnable Mehrangarh Fort, which was built some 120m above the city. Rao Jodha originally started the fort, but Maharaja Jaswant Singh built the majority of the palaces. Upon his death in 1678 Aurangzeb occupied the fort until his own death, whereupon the fort returned to Ajit Singh the son of Maharaja Jaswant Singh. The fort remained the royal residence right up until the completion of the Umaid Bhawan Palace in 1943. Today the fort, with its incredibly beautiful palaces, houses impressive collections of miniature paintings, weapons and armoury, palanquins, howdahs and jewellery. Every October, to coincide with the brightest full moon in North India, the Rajasthan International Folk Festival takes place in the stunning setting of the fort. Hi Ganesh,
I had always wanted to go to Morocco, and am so glad that I did! The country has such rich history, varied topography, and friendly people. Travel exploration did a great job preparing us for this trip, and was very responsive to questions as we were planning it. Our guide was solicitous, insanely prompt and prepared, and fun to be with. The driving into the desert and out is long, but you feel like you have seen the Grand Canyon and the Swiss Alps along the way!
Every guide was terrific, and it was evident that there is tremendous mutual respect between them and the owner.
